Die Aufgabe des Luftmengensensors in Ihrem Volvo ist, wie der Name schon sagt, die Berechnung der Luftmenge, die der Motor ansaugt. Im Luftmengensensor befinden sich dünne Metalldrähte, die elektronisch erhitzt werden und je nach Luftmenge, die durch den Ansaugtrakt strömt, unterschiedlich stark abkühlen. Ihr Volvo misst, wie viel Strom benötigt wird, um die Drähte warm zu halten. Auf diese Weise kann das Steuerungssystem des Fahrzeugs berechnen, wie viel Luft durchströmt und die Kraftstoffmenge entsprechend anpassen.
