Simons Sportauspuffanlage in TOP-Qualität wird größtenteils aus Chromstahl (AISI 409 / EN 1.4512) hergestellt. Technisch gesehen ist dies ein ferritischer rostfreier Stahl. Der Stahl ist mit 10-12% Chrom legiert. Um die beste Schweißbarkeit zu garantieren, wurde der Kohlenstoffgehalt auf ein Minimum reduziert und Titan hinzugefügt. Das Ergebnis ist ein zähes, schweißbares Material mit gutem Korrosionsschutz.
Chromstahl bekommt mit der Zeit eine braunrote korrodierte Oberfläche an Stellen, die heiß geworden sind. Dies ist normal und die Korrosion schreitet im Gegensatz zu gewöhnlichem schwarzen Stahl sehr langsam voran, was eine lange Haltbarkeit gewährleistet.
