The brake dust shield protects the brake disc from heavy splashes of water and build-up of road dust and dirt. When you drive without a brake dust shield on wet or dusty roads, slush and dirt settle on the contact surface of the brake disc. When braking, the brake pads must first remove the dirt and moisture before the brakes reach full power. The brake dust shield also protects the caliper and wheel hubs from road dust, salt and water.
