A faulty wheel hub usually reveals itself through an unusual noise when driving straight ahead, a noise that lessens or changes character when you turn. If you notice this symptom on your Volvo, you can be almost certain it's due to a damaged wheel hub. Another way to check if the wheel hub needs replacing is to jack up the car and check for any play. Grip the wheel at the top and bottom to see if it can be rocked vertically from side to side.
The Volvo S60, S80, V70 and XC70 AWD models are fitted with rear wheel hubs of the unit bearing type, Hub Unit. This means the wheel hub comes as a complete part with seals. Hub unit wheel hubs are pre-greased at the factory and are very easy to replace yourself, as you don't need a press tool or additional wheel hub grease.
