A broken wheel hub usually manifests itself through a noise when you drive straight, a noise that decreases or changes character when you turn. If you have this symptom on your Volvo, you can almost be sure that it is a broken wheel hub. Another way to find out if the wheel hub needs to be replaced is to lift the car and see if there is any play. Grab the wheel at the top and bottom to see if the wheel can be rocked vertically sideways. Volvo S40, V50, C70, and C30 have front wheel hubs of the unit bearing type for pressing into the wheel hub, Press Hub Unit. This means that the wheel hub comes as a complete part with seals. Hub unit wheel hubs are greased from the factory, but you need press tools to be able to replace this type of wheel hub.
