Properly servicing the crankcase ventilation usually means replacing all components, which can be quite expensive due to labour costs and because the manifold needs to be removed. It is generally recommended to replace the crankcase ventilation components at least every 160,000 km, or more often depending on the quality of oils used, service intervals followed, and the driving conditions the car has been exposed to. Over time, all plastic parts become very brittle and the hoses can become blocked by old oil residues and dirt. Blocked hoses result in increased pressure, which over time can cause oil leaks. If the problem is not addressed, it is only a matter of time before the crankcase ventilation fails, which in extreme cases can lead to engine failure.
