This is the story of how we took a standard V70XC and transformed it into what we believe is the most fully equipped version ever made.

THE VISION BEHIND THE TRANSFORMATION

At the heart of every car enthusiast lies the dream of creating something unique, something that stands out not only through its appearance but also as a tribute to what could have been the pinnacle of luxury in its time. Our project, a Volvo V70XC originally from the USA, embarked on just this journey. A rare gem in itself, our goal was to transform it into the most equipped with every conceivable accessory from the late 90s. This is the story of how we took a standard V70XC and transformed it into what we believe is the most fully equipped version ever made.

Part 1 - Disassembly and Paint!

The first step in our project was a comprehensive and methodical disassembly of the car. We began the process by removing every bumper, every trim, and every additional part that could be removed. This meticulous disassembly was not only necessary to prepare the car for painting but also gave us a unique opportunity to inspect each component individually. By examining each part, we could identify potential problem areas, such as rust or wear, that might require extra attention or replacement.

Part 2 - Will we get it back together?

After getting our Volvo back, gleaming in its new Sandstone paint, the real challenge began. Fitting each part, every screw and clips without scratching the paint was a test of patience and memory. The car had been thoroughly disassembled, perhaps too thoroughly, as we found ourselves playing a complex 3D puzzle. However, the satisfaction of seeing it come together again, piece by piece, was unparalleled.

Part 3 - Rusty bolts!

With the car's exterior in pristine condition, our focus shifted to its mechanical heart. The V70XC is known for its robust construction, but time spares no vehicle! In this phase of the project, we faced rust-infested bolts that resembled archaeological finds more than functioning components. Each bolt was a battle, each nut a trial, but our determination did not waver. Our focus was on enhancing the car's capacity – literally. We installed a lift kit on our Volvo V70XC. While lifting our Volvo V70XC, we also took the opportunity to refresh the brakes.

Part 4 - Fixing sport exhaust system and oil leaks

No restoration is complete without a deep dive under the bonnet. We replaced the tired, old exhaust system with a sportier setup, promising a sound worthy of its appearance. However, our triumph was short-lived when we encountered oil leaks, a reminder that beauty is not just skin deep. The engine, the heart of our project, needed attention. It was a setback, but not the end of our journey.

Part 5 - Most equipped V70XC ever?

Our ambition with the V70XC went beyond just recreating its former beauty. We aimed to transform it into what it could actually be with all available extras: the epitome of 90s luxury. Our quest led us through a labyrinth of rare and almost legendary parts – from interior panels in Masur birch to Homelink sun & privacy protection visor, gullwing roof box equipped with gun rack and much more. Each unique addition brought us one step closer to our vision. Our V70XC underwent not just a restoration; it was transformed into the ultimate example of the vehicle's design and functionality, just as it could have been with every conceivable extra chosen in the 90s.

From vision to reality

This journey was not just about building a car; it was about honouring what Volvo stands for - safety, comfort and a hint of adventure. We embarked on this project not just as car enthusiasts but as stewards of a piece of automotive history. Our Volvo V70XC, now complete with every optional extra, stands as a living testament to the fantastic results that passion, perseverance and hard work can lead to. It is a beacon for those who believe that every car has a story waiting to be told, and sometimes those stories are worth every effort.

Our aim was for our project car to become a platform for innovation, an opportunity not only to create a unique car but also to experiment with and develop new parts for this particular model. The parts we have designed and refined are now in production, available for those who share our passion and wish to enhance their own vehicles.
