De remschijf scheidt de Remschijven van hevige waterspetters en afzettingen van wegstuif en vuil.
Wanneer je rijdt zonder remschijf op natte of stoffige wegen, verzamelt slush en vuil zich op het contactoppervlak van de Remschijven. Bij het remmen moeten de Remblokken eerst het vuil en vocht verwijderen voordat de Remmen hun volle kracht bereiken. De remschijf beschermt op deze manier ook de Remklauw en Wiellagers tegen wegstuif, zout en water
