Het remschild beschermt de remschijf tegen zware waterspatten en afzetting van wegstof en vuil. Als je zonder remschild op natte of stoffige wegen rijdt, zetten slib en vuil zich af op het contactoppervlak van de remschijf. Bij het remmen moeten de remblokken eerst vuil en vocht wegslijten voordat de remmen op volle sterkte zijn.
