Een kapot wiellager manifesteert zich meestal als een vreemd geluid als je recht vooruit rijdt, dat vervaagt of verandert als je de bocht omgaat. Heeft je Volvo dit symptoom, dan ligt het vrijwel zeker aan een kapot wiellager. Je kunt ook ontdekken of het wiellager vervangen moet worden door de auto op te tillen en te kijken of er spleten zijn. Pak het wiel aan de boven- en onderkant vast om te zien of het verticaal zijwaarts kan worden gebogen.
Volvo XC90 heeft achterwiellagers van het Hub Unit-type. Dit betekent dat het wiellager wordt geleverd als complete eenheid met afdichtingen. Hub unit-wiellagers worden in de fabriek ingevet en zijn heel gemakkelijk zelf te vervangen omdat er geen persgereedschap of wiellagervet nodig is.
