Een kapot wiellager manifesteert zich meestal als een geluid bij rechtuit rijden: een geluid dat vermindert of van karakter verandert in de bochten. Als je dit symptoom herkent bij je Volvo, kun je er bijna zeker van zijn dat het een kapot wiellager is. Een andere manier om erachter te komen of het wiellager aan vervanging toe is, is door de auto omhoog te zetten en te kijken of er speling is. Pak het wiel aan de boven- en onderkant vast om te zien of het wiel verticaal zijwaarts kan worden bewogen.

Volvo S70, V70 en V70XC hebben voorwiellagers van het type Hub Unit. Dit betekent dat het wiellager wordt geleverd als een compleet onderdeel met afdichtingen. Hub Unit wiellagers worden in de fabriek ingevet en zijn bijzonder makkelijk zelf te vervangen, omdat er geen persgereedschap of wiellagervet nodig is.
