Always start by ensuring that all loose dirt on the car is removed.
Cold degreasing removes petroleum-based dirt such as asphalt and oil and should always be applied to a dry car.
Alkaline degreasing removes organic dirt such as insects and moss.
Foaming your car is a slightly more fun way to get the car cleaner, if you wash the car often, this can suffice as a wash.
